We select the audio equipment for the house

Whether you like watching movies and want to enjoy the best possible experience in every aspect, or are a true music lover and expect the highest possible level of sound while listening to music - you will not achieve satisfaction without the right audio equipment.

If someone is interested in such devices, then he or she is going to meet with a huge selection of them on the market. In fact, every audio store has special equipment from larger or smaller manufacturers to offer. Of course, such a wide choice will not always be helpful - people without much knowledge in this field may have considerable problems with deciding which of the long list of solutions and devices will be suitable for them. Therefore, it is necessary to approach this topic wisely, all the more so because the purchase of equipment from a higher shelf is usually associated with quite large expenses.

It's best to get a closer look at the most popular solutions in the beginning - whether they will work perfectly in everyday use, while providing us with a very high level of sound.

When choosing the right product, you should pay attention not only to your needs, but also to the possibilities. This is not just about the budget, although it is, of course, a very important issue. However, we must remember that even the equipment of the highest quality does not guarantee satisfactory sound quality, if we do not have a suitable room that will provide sufficient space for the speakers. The two basic solutions we can decide on are home theater and stereo.

Home cinema - for film lovers

As the name suggests, the task of home cinema is to give us the same experience as in a real cinema room. It is therefore a very interesting proposition for every lover of good cinema - spatial, multi-channel sound of high quality perfectly influences the experience of watching films. Home cinema sets have been very popular for a dozen or so years, but you have to consider whether they will be a good proposal in our case. It must be acknowledged that the demand for home cinema systems is largely due to a trend resulting from the apparent versatility of such a solution, which theoretically meets all the needs of the listener.

A home theater system consists of several basic elements: speakers (front channels, center channels, surround channels, possibly surround back), an amplifier (or processor/multichannel amplifier) and an active subwoofer. The task of the receiver is very important here - it is responsible for receiving the digital signal and then converting it into an analog signal and transferring it to the speakers. The loudspeakers themselves are available in several groups, each of which is responsible for a different task. Standard 5.1 configurations include two front speakers, two rear speakers, one central speaker and a subwoofer. In the increasingly popular 7.1 configurations, surround speakers are placed on the sides of the listener, and surround back speakers are placed behind the listener. A powerful amplifier that drives large front speakers also uses a 5.0 speaker system without the need for a separate active subwoofer.

In order to achieve satisfactory results, it is very important that the speakers are spaced appropriately. The front speakers should be positioned on the sides of the TV set opposite the seating position and should be symmetrically aligned with the centre line of the screen. A similar setting should be used for surround speakers, except that they should be placed behind us (set 5.1) or from the sides and behind us (7.1). It is best to place the centre speaker symmetrically in the middle, underneath the TV or screen. A subwoofer is a speaker that produces woofers, i.e. bass. Due to the omnidirectional propagation of the bass, its position is not so important, but in terms of phase phenomena, and therefore, matching to the rest of the speakers is usually placed in the area of the front and center speakers.

Stereo systems for music lovers

A decent, two-channel stereo can take the form of a simple, minimalist set or a complex, multi-element high-end configuration for the most demanding music lovers - it all depends on the type of equipment you want. The number of channels and speakers in most cases is limited to two: left and right, and only in a few cases is it necessary to use an additional active subwoofer. Since all music recordings are made in stereo, the appropriate equipment selected by an expert in the best possible sound will ensure long moments of relaxation with your favorite music. Fewer channels and speakers do not mean that the price of such a system has to be lower - usually we will pay at least as much for a good stereo quality as for a home theater. The advantage of a stereo system is that it provides much better sound quality in absolute terms. With properly realized recordings from discs or files with a CD resolution or higher, we will be able to hear "detached from the speakers" sound effects coming from different sides of the room - just like in the multi-channel systems of home cinema from the highest shelf!
