Laser hair removal - do you know everything about it?

Laser hair removal is one of the most frequently performed aesthetic treatments. The effect of smooth skin attracts mainly women, but also men to beauty salons. The innovation of this treatment will be particularly useful for people with sensitive skin, who suffer from irritation after traditional depilation methods. The controversy surrounding laser hair removal revolves around the price of the procedure and contraindications to its performance. Is laser hair removal safe? Why should you decide on it?

Laser hair removal

The laser hair removal treatment is based on the penetration of the laser beam into the deep hair tissues. The matrix, the part responsible for hair growth, is destroyed. Such a process in the medical environment is called selective photothermolysis. This allows you to remove unwanted hair, which is particularly useful for diseases such as peri-particular dermatitis or troublesome problems associated with irritation or ingrown hair.

Laser epilation, thanks to the selective action of the laser beam on the hair, does not cause damage to even the most sensitive skin in places such as the bikini area or face. This treatment is more effective the darker and thicker the hair, i.e. the more pigment (melanin) it has, and the greater the contrast between skin tone and hair color. People with light complexion and dark hair are the best candidates for laser hair reduction. The biggest advantage of the treatment is the possibility of complete hair removal from selected places. The treatment should be repeated, an appropriate number of sessions can ensure the effect of a smooth skin even for several years.

Laser hair removal - contraindications

Like any cosmetic treatment, laser hair removal also has some contraindications to perform it. However, the procedure itself is safe. Getting rid of unwanted hair with a laser beam is a non-invasive hair removal method that does not cause skin irritation or damage and can be used even in sensitive areas of the skin. The contraindications of laser hair removal are as follows:

pregnancy and breastfeeding period,

taking light-sensitive drugs (e.g. anti-acne antibiotics or antidepressants, vitamin A therapy),

taking herbal remedies (e.g. St. John's wort or marigold - their use should be discontinued at least one week before the treatment),

Cancer (a doctor's consultation is required for past cancers),

bacterial, infectious, fungal infections in the area of the procedure,

Use of bronzers, self-tanner or oral beta-carotene,

Grey, blonde or red hair or tanned skin (the effectiveness of the treatment will be minimal or ineffective),

dermatological problems of the skin (e.g. vitiligo, psoriasis).

Many contraindications of laser hair removal can be eliminated in advance by properly preparing for the procedure. It is best to discuss the details of the preparations with the specialist who will perform the epilation in advance. Health condition, hair colour and quality are important. There are a number of activities to which each person deciding on a laser hair removal should apply, such as stopping the depilation a month before the treatment or giving up the solarium at least a few weeks before.

Laser hair removal - price

Determining the price of laser hair removal cannot be unequivocal, because this cost varies depending on the areas of the skin on which we want to apply it. In addition, laser hair removal requires regular repetition of treatments in order to be durable and effective. The price of laser hair removal also varies depending on the sex of the client. Many beauty salons will present their price guidelines. Costs range from 100 to even 500 zł for a single treatment on a given part of the body.

Laser hair removal effects

As mentioned above, the effectiveness of this cosmetic procedure may be affected by many factors. Opinions about laser hair removal and its efficiency vary. What does that mean? The effectiveness of the treatment depends on the hair conditions of the person concerned. A permanent effect of laser hair removal is possible, but requires regularity and about 3-5 sessions.

After each irradiation treatment, the hair that grows back is weaker and thinner. Even after 3 sessions, it is possible to remove 80 to 92 percent of the hair permanently. Laser hair removal has both positive and negative opinions - as with any cosmetic procedure, everything depends on individual predispositions and expectations.
