Skills and achievements in CV - How to write about them?

Skills and achievements in CV - How to write about them?

In the old CV model the skills were placed almost at the very end. Is it worthwhile to include a description of your skills and achievements in your CV? When is it worth writing about them? How to choose which ones to write about and which ones to skip? What should I do when entering skills and achievements in my CV?

Descriptions of skills in CVs and achievements are almost always needed, and if not, then at least useful. They are an additional source of information about a potential employee for the recruiter. Based on the information provided in this section, the recruiter will evaluate the employee and see how much he or she could contribute to the company. It is also worth to use the CV wizard and a ready-made template, which will help you in a professional way to emphasize your skills.

What should not be included in the description of skills?

It is not recommended to include soft skills such as punctuality, creativity or teamwork skills. Even if they are listed in the requirements of the job advertisement, the majority of candidates applying for this position will have such skills. It is also important to mention that the assessment of soft skills is difficult - if we make a mistaken assessment, it may be abandoned during an interview. That is why you should be careful. Instead, we will gain a lot more from factual statements - especially if we have certifications, certificates, references or other documents confirming our achievements.

Match CV skills with the skills your employer is looking for

Are you applying for the position of a sales department employee or maybe the editor-in-chief of an Internet portal? It is worth getting acquainted with the list of requirements and expectations for an ideal candidate for a specific position. If you don't find the information you need in an advertisement, look for similar information. You can also use services in English or other foreign languages - especially if the position you are applying for is not yet very common. Remember to avoid placing unnecessary skills for a specific position, such as - if you have to deal with customer service, but only in English, you can omit Russian - especially if it is on a basic level. Likewise, if you have a current health booklet or a disability certificate, you will not need one if you are a sales representative. Therefore, when reviewing your job requirements, make sure you only enter skills that will help you show that your employer will benefit from hiring you.
